Kevin L. Lee is an Asian-American film producer, screenwriter, and critic based in New York City. He has loved movies ever since he could read and over the years has brought that passion with him across the country, from San Jose CA to Austin TX to New York City.

A champion of the creative process, Kevin has consulted, written, and produced several short films from development to principal photography to festival premiere. He has over 10 years of marketing and writing experience in film criticism and journalism, ranging from blockbusters to foreign indie films.

He recently finished his MFA in film producing at Columbia University and is currently working in film and TV development for production companies. He is also developing screenplays of his own.

About the Director

I always find myself drawn to genre filmmaking, but specifically, I’m drawn to how genre tropes can heighten a human experience. For ALY, I wanted to take romance and intimacy and give it a horror twist, to let horror exaggerate our most awkward moments. And I wanted it to have all kinds of tones, from suspenseful to endearing.

Though the film itself only follows Michael and Aly during one single (but pivotal) night in their relationship, I wanted to portray two nervous people who care about each other. That rare vulnerability was something I really wanted to capture through their faces and gaze. Intimacy can be messy, maybe even a bit dysfunctional. But when two people see each other for who they really are and still find a way to accept them, it’s a beautiful thing.

Though the film is still technically a “horror,” my hope is for the story to be down-to-earth and relatable. Most of all, I hope the audience can have a good laugh and root for these two to stay together.
